Labor and Delivery Education
Medicated or non-medicated? Home, birthing center, or hospital? Vaginal or scheduled Cesarean? Vitamin K shot? Sometimes deciding on a plan is overwhelming. This class was developed to educate you on the stages of labor, childbirth methods, use cases of certain medications and vaccinations and more. We will help you to feel confident about your decisions when creating your birth preferences, but most importantly when you’re laboring and delivering your bundle of joy. You will also learn about pain management techniques, how your birth partner can encourage you during labor and what you should pack to bring with you for a comfortable stay at the hospital.
Since this will be a 1-on-1 class, you will be able to ask questions tailored to your concerns. We will cover:
Labor and delivery methods (Lamaze, Bradley, Hypnobirthing, etc.)
The stages of labor
Pain management (medical and holistic)
How your partner can be the best help for you during labor
Types of support people (doulas, midwives, OBs, newborn care specialists, lactation specialists, etc.)
Picking a pediatrician
and more
Birth Doula
Having a doula with you during labor can be a great comfort and source of positivity and calm. Below is a list of potential benefits that a doula can help you through. When planning for your labor and delivery we can discuss these things further, deciding what you would and wouldn’t welcome during this incredibly personal experience between you, your partner, and new baby.
Continue to help mama change techniques and positions to keep her as comfortable as possible
Create a calming atmosphere tailored to your needs (dimming the lights, playing music, aromatherapy, massage, etc.)
Help mom stay hydrated and nourished as allowed by your midwife, OBGYN and/or nurses
Prepare light snacks, and bring her drinks of water or non-acidic juices (as discussed with your OBGYN)
Inform necessary people that labor has started, this may include canceling obligations and/or making pet or childcare arrangements
A mother’s support person helps decrease the physical discomforts of labor. They also add an extra layer of nurturing by providing additional companionship and emotional support throughout the magical process we call childbirth.
Breastfeeding Support
Producing breastmilk is natural, but the skill of latching the baby onto the breast is learned. I take the guesswork and anxiety out of this important choice. My shared goal is to explore what works for you and your baby within the first weeks and months after giving birth.
Aside from answering your questions and concerns, we’ll cover:
How to achieve a deep latch
Breastfeeding should never hurt
How to stay comfortable while feeding
How to ensure your baby is getting enough milk
What to do when your breasts get engorged or your ducts get plugged
Feeding schedules and frequency
and more
